Bolt after the 100 m final at the 2008 Olympics16 August 2009 - Berlin, Germany – With a performance that defies the imagination, Usain Bolt set a new 100m World record of 9.58 on the second evening of the 12th IAAF World Championships in Athletics at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin.

That was 0.11 seconds faster than the mark he set last year at the Beijing Olympics - the biggest improvement in the 100-meter record since electronic timing began in 1968.

"I don't run for world records,'' said Bolt, who crossed the line with a slight breeze at his back.

Yet those records always seem to find him.He thinks he can go even lower.

"I know I said 9.4,'' Bolt said, grinning. ``You never know. I'll just keep on working.''

Currently Bolt holds the world record for the 100 metres at 9.58 seconds (pending), the 200 metres at 19.30 seconds and, along with his teammates, the 4x100 metres relay at 37.10 seconds. Bolt also holds the Olympic record in the 100 metres at 9.69 seconds. Bolt became the first man to win all three events at a single Olympics since Carl Lewis in 1984, and the first man in history to set world records in all three at a single Olympics. His name and achievements in sprinting have earned him the media nickname "'Lightning Bolt".
